Originating in the Turkish (Ottoman) Empire, an ottoman was an upholstered footstool which served as seat and storage. An ottoman bed is based on the same design, with a lift-up bed-base which has a deep storage unit concealed beneath. 

Most of us are short on storage space in our bedrooms, and it makes sense to use the underbed space for bedlinen or off-season clothes – so an ottoman bed is a practical solution. 

With all that storage AND built-in headboards, it’s no wonder that ottoman beds are popular for guest beds and holiday lets, too.

Both types of bed provide neat, hidden storage, but an ottoman has greater capacity – and it’s easy to access by lifting at one end. If your bed will have any side against a wall, divan drawers may be difficult to open. We’re #TeamOttoman all the way!

Ottoman beds feature a deep storage capacity which is accessed by lifting the bed base (including the mattress) from the foot end of the bed. 

The lifting mechanism holds up the mattress base (like a car boot) while you’re rummaging for your favourite sheets.

Our ottoman beds are engineered with extra-deep storage capacity and you’re unlikely to find them too low. 

In fact, we advise checking the measurements specified on the product page as some customers have found that, once layered with a luxury mattress, our ottoman beds can be quite high.
